I don’t know how to feel about the month of October. The obvious references of Autumn and Halloween, and my October birthday, warm the way I feel about the month. But, there is a pulling away from Summer, from the fresh outside celebration of life, and time with my family and friends; that all goes into hibernation and tempers my joy. In a way, October really does end up trick or treat.
In September, we watched as the Scream Taker release Kill the Beautiful generated and continues to generate insane interest and excitement. That is because the record kicks ass.
Charlie and I toured the Kubert School and had lunch with our friend and associate there, Michael Kraiger. It was inspiring to be in a building that has original artwork for some of the most famous comic book characters. The walls were filled with picture after picture from comic book artists that explode the mind with color and imagery. With comic books, posters, and comic strips in production, Deko and Kubert are just beginning to explore creativities together.
Good news! We have finally received and shipped all Imaginos II Black and White or Red and Black products, so we want to thank everyone for their patience. We can only control what we can, but we are eternally grateful to our community for the support.
This year, to cheer myself up on gloomy October days, I think about the insane month of new releases we are going to have at Deko Entertainment. Let’s start with a new Tiffany lyric video called “I Like the Rain,” releasing on October 14th. It’s a powerful selection from Shadows, Tiffany’s new album, which will release on Thanksgiving 2022. Tiffany is a life warrior and a natural for this gritty rock groove. I am telling you, if you listen…you will like it!
Also releasing the same day is a new Leviathan Project collection named Phantoms Volume 1. If you want to get to know this band, this release is a tasting menu. Ex-members of Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Death, and Brutality are worth listening to, right? They are so good!
From a confidence perspective, I probably would not have taken on this massive project called Deko Entertainment if it wasn’t for two dear friends and their belief that we could make a difference working together. One is my partner at Deko, Charlie Calv, who I’ve known now for almost forty years (that’s right, Charlie isn’t really thirty-five anymore). The second is my friend and world-class singer, Joe Cerisano, who is so knowledgeable about the music business that his confidence in me helped me mount the courage to take on my role at Deko. If you don’t know Joe and his legend--and my God, his voice--start here with the song “Healing Hands,” from The Distant Thunder, a new album releasing mid-November. The Distant Thunder is folk rock Americana at its best, written and performed by Joe and project partner, Marc Blatte. You will all have an opportunity to hear Joe’s voice in a variety of projects over the coming months and years, but start with “Healing Hands” from one of the most healing voices in the world.
On October 21, 2022, the much-anticipated release of John Entwistle’s Oxhumed Volume One becomes a reality. Here is what this is: John Entwistle was the bass player for the Who, but most importantly was one of the very best and most innovative bass players in history! He had an amazing career outside of the Who that featured lots of recordings and gigs. From years and years of making earth shattering content, Oxhumed Volume One is the earth-shattering first release from a fine curation of John’s work by his best friend and musical partner, Steve Luongo. We have totally unearthed buried treasures.
Also releasing on October 21st, is the next single from Bird Streets, “Sleeper Agent.” If you’ve already experienced the Bird Streets project, this tune will make total sense. If you haven’t, it will make you want to hear more.
We should all get to have a birthday like I’m going to have on October 28, 2022. I am a true fan of Lisa Bodnar and Whistlegrass and the much-anticipated release of their new album, 40 Years in the Desert. I would categorize this as progressive, thoughtful folk music. There is a reflective character developed in each song, and every instrument has been perfected to enhance that mood.
I cannot announce our final release of the month, because the press release hasn’t gone out yet, but there is big news on the horizon and we are all really revved up about this one. It's a super exciting project that revisits one of the most popular and best-selling records of all time, so keep an eye out for the big announcement.
And a shoutout to Team Deko, specifically Giovanna and Drew for doing what they always do when they promote a project: set a new, higher bar for anything we do tomorrow. The team I work with here at Deko is so f***ing good it blows my mind!
You know, maybe I am a bit cynical about October because as a kid my birthday present was usually my Halloween costume. Now that I self-gift myself wonderful music, I guess October isn’t so bad. Also, a note next week on the next Union project with some links to recent interviews. Thanks for supporting what we do here.
Sincerely,
Bruce P.
